Sustainable Buildings is an interdisciplinary, open access, peer-reviewed journal on the engineering and technical issues of building design, technology, energy and environmental performance. It is published in partnership with the Zero Energy Mass Custom Home Network (ZEMCH Network) and indexed in the Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ). Its Editors-in-Chief are both academics and they are supported by an experienced, international editorial board.
We would like to congratulate co-Editor-in-Chief, Prof. Dr. Haşim Altan, on his recent appointment as the first Dean of Faculty of Architecture & Fine Arts at Final International University in Kyrenia, Cyprus. Haşim is active in the areas of the Environment, Technology and Sustainability with a main focus on Sustainable Architecture and the Built Environment. His expertise, developed through teaching and applied work, is invaluable to Sustainable Buildings.
Dr. John Kaiser Calautit, Assistant Professor in Building Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham, works with Haşim as co-Editor-in-Chief. John has extensive experience in the design and simulation modelling of new and existing buildings. He has led multiple research programmes and his interests include innovative passive cooling technologies, artificial intelligence, thermal comfort strategies, indoor air quality (IAQ), building integrated renewables, wind engineering, numerical modelling and experimental testing.
Both Editors-in-Chief would like to thank all Sustainable Buildings authors and reviewers who contributed in 2019 and recommend the following articles from last year:
- Parametric multi-objective energy and cost analysis in the life cycle of nearly zero energy buildings − an exhaustive search approach (Read)
- Hygrothermal behaviour of straw bale walls: experimental tests and numerical analyses (Read)
Going back further, the Editors-in-Chief also recommend:
- Solar water heating systems for different buildings under a hot climate; parametric optimization and economic analysis
- A solution for future designs using techniques from vernacular architecture in southern Iran
- Carbonated miscanthus mineralized aggregates for reducing environmental impact of lightweight concrete blocks
- Effectiveness of using WiFi technologies to detect and predict building occupancy
- Numerical analysis of passive strategies for energy retrofit of existing buildings in Mediterranean climate: thermal mass and natural ventilation combination
- Steady-state CFD modelling and experimental analysis of the local microclimate in Dubai (UAE)
- Risk assessment methods for life cycle costing in buildings
